MANCHESTER -- John Frederic Burditt, 89, died May 24, 2007, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born April 4, 1918, in Newton, Mass. He graduated from Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge, Mass., received his BA degree from Yale University and later attended New York University Graduate School of Business Administration and the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. During WWII he served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy and in 1947 married Jane Spaulding Nye.

After the war Jack joined ACF Industries as Assistant Treasurer. In 1959 he was elected Vice President of ACF and in 1967 was elected chairman and CEO of the company, a position he held until his retirement in 1983. He also served on the boards of directors of Clarkson University, General Public Utilities, Warner Lambert, Amstar, Transway.

After retiring in 1983, he and his wife Jane moved from Bedford, N.Y. to Dorset, raised championship polled Herefords on Rolling Meadow Farm in Pawlet and enjoyed traveling and visiting with their many friends and family around the world. Jack is loved by his wife, Jane, his five children, Faraday, Fred, John, Tim and Benjamin and their spouses, and 17 grandchildren. A family gathering will be held in Newton, Mass. at a later date.
