John W. "Jack" Coyne

1935-2009 BENNINGTON John W. "Jack" Coyne, 74, a resident of Lincoln Street in Bennington died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born in Bennington Aug. 8, 1935. Jack was the son of the late William and Eleanor Mathers Coyne.

He received his education in Bennington.

For six years he was a member of the National Guard.

He married the former Simone C. Weeks in Bennington on May 4, 1957.

For many years Jack was employed at the Bennington Museum from which he retired.

His main interest was his family and grandchildren. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In the early 1970's Jack was instrumental in the formation of the Mount Anthony Youth Athletic Association in which he coached for many years. He was a Life Member of the Bennington Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Simone C. Coyne, of Bennington; his children, Colleen Loveland of Bennington, David Coyne and Barbara of North Bennington, Paula Cross and Peter of Shaftsbury, Paul Coyne and Beth of Bennington; eight grandchildren, Jody and Seth Loveland, Meghan and Trevor Coyne, Emily and Alex Cross and Matt and Christopher Coyne; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Matthew Myers and Leahya Mae Loveland; three sisters, Helena Powell of Texas, Kathy Brown of Okla. and Gertrude Estes of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; five brothers, Ralph "Mouse" Coyne of Okla., Thomas Coyne of Okla., Gregory Coyne of Colo., Steve Coyne and Edward Coyne both of Bennington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Milton Coyne and a sister, Patricia Livingston.

FUNERAL NOTICE: At the request of Mr. Coyne there will be no calling hours.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

A time of sharing and refreshment will be held at the Bennington Elks Lodge on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the either Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center or the VNA and Hospice at the Southwestern Vermont Health Care through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St, Bennington, VT 05201.
