Obituary Condolences

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- John E. Stewart, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, Vt. He formerly resided on Lyman Street in Hoosick Falls and was the husband of the late Mildred (Baker) Stewart who died in 1986. John and Mildred were married in 1945 at Santa Rosa, Calif.

John was born June 20, 1917 in Hoosick Falls son of William and Laura (Aldrich) Stewart. He was educated at schools in Hoosick Falls and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. John was very proud of the fact that he served in the Army and shared many memories of his time in the service. He worked at Trojan Hardware in Troy, and later at Oak Industries in Hoosick Falls, retiring in 1976. John was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and a former member of the V.F.W. Post 48417, both in Hoosick Falls. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life.

Survivors include his daughter Jo-Anne Stewart of North Petersburgh, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Alice Thurber and Pauline Deyoe and two brothers William and Billy Stewart.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
