Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- John Gordon Ensign, 55, a resident of Anthony Drive Bennington and a former resident of Chapel Road died Monday, June 11, 2007, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a long and progressive illness.

He was born in Pawtucket, R.I., on May 18, 1952. He was the son of the late John and Edith (Plant) Ensign. John received his education in Cumberland, R.I., and was a graduate of Cumberland High School.

In 1973 John moved to Williamstown, Mass., and for several years, he worked at Holland Co. in Adams. For many years, John was also sexton at the First Congregational Church in Williamstown, retiring when he became ill. In later years, he created and sold decorative wreaths and centerpieces and had his own landscaping and painting business. John loved to cook, garden and go fishing.

He is survived by two sisters, Charlene(Stanlewicz) James of Williamstown, and Jan Sword of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two nieces Deborah Stanlewicz of Pownal, Vt., and Donna Stanlewicz of North Adams, Mass.; four nephews, Joseph Stanlewicz of Agawam, Mass., and Robert, James and Jason Sword of Florida, five great nieces, six great nephews and former wife, Cindy Greene.

The funeral will be held from the Community Bible Church of Williamstown on Friday, June 15, 2007, at 7 p.m.

Friends may call at the church from 6 to 7 p.m.

The committal service will take place at the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at 10 a.m.
