John W. Evans

1947 - 2013 POWNAL John W. Evans, 65, a resident of Niles School Road, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation, following a brief illness.

Born in Williamstown, Mass., on June 22, 1947, he was the son of Mark and Charlotte (Subcliff) Evans. John received his early education in Williamstown and Pownal and was a 1965 graduate of Bennington High School.

He had been employed at Vishay -Tansitor for over 20 years and, at the time of his death, was serving as Senior Director of Medical Products and Tantalum Capacitor Division.

An active member of the Pownal community for many years, John was a Past Chief of the Pownal Center Fire Department and a former member of the Pownal Rescue Squad.

He enjoyed boating on Lake George and spending quality time with his friends at the camp on County Road in Pownal.

John married the former Nola Campbell at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in North Pownal on Sept. 30, 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Nola Evans of Pownal; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Lynn Evans of Ijamsville, Md.; a son, Christopher Evans and his fiance Stephanie Schenski of Williamstown; two grandchildren, Colby and Caitlyn Evans; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and George Andrews of Pownal; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Margaret Evans of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Linda Evans of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Norman Griggs of Yucaipa, Calif., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was predeceased by a brother and sister, Mark Evans and Joan Griggs.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of John W. Evans will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Friday, June 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Pownal.

Should friends desire, contributions in John W. Evans memory may be made to either the Pownal Rescue Squad or the Pownal Valley Fire Department through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
