NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mr. John Francis Flood, 85, a resident of McCarthy Acres, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, following a brief illness.

He was born in Bennington, April 6, 1920, son of the late John A. Flood and the former Agnes (Driscoll) Flood. He received his education in North Bennington and was a graduate of North Bennington High School.

A World War II veteran, John served for four years in the United States Navy. He married the former Ann L. Murphy on May 27, 1959.

For 22 years, John was employed at the North Bennington Post Office.

He was a member of the Norshaft Lions Club and Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church. In earlier years, John enjoyed fishing. He also liked to read and especially enjoyed photography.

Survivors include his wife, Ann L. Flood of Bennington; a son, John A. Flood and his wife, Angie of Shaftsbury; two grandchildren, Felisha and John M. Flood of Shaftsbury; a brother, Dr. William Flood of North Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Flood. At the request of Mr. Flood, calling hours and funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Saint John’s Cemetery in North Bennington. If friends desire contributions in memory of Mr. John F. Flood may be made to the Vermont Chapter of the American Cancer Society through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
