Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- The liturgy of Christian burial for John G. Mas was celebrated from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Tuesday morning. Officiating was the Rev. Robert Loczynski, c.s.c., pastor. The pall was placed upon Mr. Mas’ casket by his children Richard Mas and Barbara Eagle; a wooden cross was placed upon the casket by his wife Claire. Music for the Mass was provided by organist Donald McMahon, who led the congregation in singing “Here I am, Lord” as the processional hymn. The communion hymn was “Be Not Afraid,” with “Ave Maria” as the hymn of reflection. Acolytes for the service were John Reed, Francis Sausville, Bernie Bourgeois and James Kemp; the readings were offered by John Reed. The offertory gifts were presented to the altar by Richard Mas, Jessica Redding, Deborah Mas, Michael Redding and Barbara Eagle.

Burial with full military honors followed in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y., with the Rev. Robert LeFevre offering the committal prayers. The American flag draping the casket of the World War II Air Force veteran was presented to Mrs. Mas.

A prayer service preceded the funeral Mass at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington.

Mr. Mas, 80, died June 29, 2004 at the Vermont Veterans Home following a lengthy illness.
