Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- The funeral for Mr. John H. Barry was held at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington where the liturgy of Christian death and burial was offered by the Rev. James Preskenis, c.s.c., pastor, and the Rev. Michael DeMasi. The vessel containing Mr. Barry’s cremated remains was carried by his son, Dennis Barry, and the pall was placed over the vessel by his daughter, Tricia Beecroft.

A reading was offered by Dr. Barth Vander Els.

The eucharistic gifts were brought to the altar by his two daughters-in-law, Darlene Barry and Yolanda Barry. Mrs. Tricia Beecroft offered the eulogy.

Hymns offered during the mass were, “On Eagles’ Wings,” “Here I Am Lord,” “Ave Maria,” “The Irish Blessing” and “Sleep My Jesu.” Soloist for the mass was Ms. Monica Murray and she was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Louise Gauthier.

Acolytes for the liturgy were Mr. James Kempf, John Reed, Leonard Anzivino and Barth Vander Els.

Burial was in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery in Shaftsbury where the Rev. Michael A. DeMasi offered the committal prayers.

The American flag was presented to Mr. Barry’s wife, Irene Barry, by Mr. Ralph Brown of the Bennington American Legion Post No. 13. Taps were played by Mr. Maurice Rancourt.

Mr. John Barry, a longtime resident of Washington Street in Bennington, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at the Vermont Veterans Home.
