Obituary Condolences

BUSKIRK -- John H. “Pa” Riley, 86, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. He resided on Quaker Road in Buskirk with his wife, Ruth (Lavin) Riley.

John was born on March 2, 1920, in Hoosick Falls, son of Harry and Catherine (Haren) Riley. He was educated at Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II, where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his duty. John worked at the Cushman Furniture Company in North Bennington, Vt., for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 40 in Hoosick Falls and a communicant of St. George’s Church in Pittstown.

John enjoyed painting, drawing, gardening and woodworking.

Survivors other than his wife Ruth include two daughters, Kathy Riley of Bennington, and Trish Bossong of North Bennington; two sons, Jack Riley of Lima and Tom Riley of Pittstown; he is also survived by 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Joseph and Walter Riley, predeceased John.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls.A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Centers for LIving and Rehabilitation through the funeral home.û
