John J. Ryan 1932 - 2008 HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. John J. "Jack" Ryan, 76, died Thursday, May 22, at home on Mechanic Street, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous fight against cancer. He kept his sense of wit and humor until the end. Jack resided there with his wife, Gladys Dooley Ryan. Born on April 17, 1932 in Hoosick Falls, son of Walter and Marcia Bouplon Ryan, he graduated from St. Mary's Academy. A veteran of the Navy, he served during the Korean Conflict from 1950 - 1954. Jack retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992, after being a mail carrier for 34 years. Jack, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, enjoyed spending time with his family, summers around the pool, and coffee at the kitchen table. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, Red Sox and 49er fan, enjoyed OTB and trips to the Racino. Jack was a lifetime member of St. Stanislaw Society and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, both in Hoosick Falls. Besides his wife, Gladys, he leaves his daughter, Jackie and husband, Scott, of Shaftsbury, V-t.; two sons, Kevin Ryan and wife Jocelyn, and Bobby Ryan and wife, Carol, all of Hoosick Falls; his grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Ailish, Danielle, and Christopher Ryan, and Alexandra and Phoebe Thomson. Jack was predeceased by a brother, Walter "Rosie" Ryan. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, May 27, at 9:30 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church, Main Street. Burial will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y. Relatives and friends may call at the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main St., on Sunday, May 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund or the Rensselaer County Community Hospice through the funeral home.
