BENNINGTON John Joseph Grady, age 79, a resident of Beech Street, died on Monday morning, October 21, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, following a long illness.He was born in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., and was the son of the late John Patrick and Helen (Thayer) Grady. The family moved to Bennington when he was a baby, and then to North Bennington. He attended North Bennington schools and graduated in 1952. He served with the Bennington National Guard, and attended military school in Texas with the rank of Master Sergeant. John went to work for Sprague Electric in Williamstown, as an electrical technician and was promoted to supervisor. While working at Sprague's he met a co-worker Theresa Morin, and they were married on February 6, 1960 in North Adams. Mrs. Grady survives. John had also worked for Sprague Electric in Nashua, N.H. John then took a job with AVX Ceramics and the family moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. John was very involved in the Junior Achievement Program in Myrtle Beach as an instructor. He left AVX Ceramics as a Principle Engineer, and returned to North Bennington, and accepted a position with William E. Dailey, Inc. in Shaftsbury as a Purchasing Agent. At the time of his retirement, he was working at the Scale House. John was a member of the Elks Lodge in North Adams, Massachusetts. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jean Henderson and her husband Bruce of Bennington, Vt. and Joanne Lomena and her husband Rudy of Pembroke Pines, Florida. He leaves several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers, Thomas Grady and his wife Roberta of Washington State, Michael Grady and his wife Virginia of Hollis, N.H., and William Grady of Romona, Calif. He also has one sister, Mary Smith of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Prayer service will be held at the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, in Bennington on Monday morning, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Death and Burial at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the family lot in Southview Cemetery in North Adams, Mass.
