John Louis Gleason 1925 - 2008 BENNINGTON John Louis Gleason, 83, of Sandusky, Ohio, and Vero Beach, Fla., died suddenly Monday, Oct. 13, in Vero Beach. He was born May 27, 1925 in Bennington. John served in the Army during World War II as a paratrooper in the 101st airborne Division where he saw extensive action in the ETO. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart with cluster and numerous other awards. He remained an officer in the Army Reserve for many years. During his career as civilian employee of the U.S. Government, he held numerous leadership assignments working in Ohio, Michigan and Vietnam where he also earned several awards and distinctions. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Mildred, Millie, of Vero Beach; son, Paul J. Gleason, and his wife, Pamela, of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandsons, Ryan and Nathan Gleason, and step-grandson Matthew Miller, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother Frank Gleason, Jean, of Sandusky, Ohio; sister Margaret LaCroix, Roland, of Bennington, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service was held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, FL with military honors provided by VFW Post 3918 of Vero Beach. A Special Intention Mass will be held on Nov. 23, 2008 at 8 a.m. in Bennington, VT at the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. Interment will be in Bennington, VT at a future date. Memorial Contributions may be made to one's local VFW Post or the VFW Post in Sandusky, Ohio.
