JAMAICA -- John Malcolm Carroll, 78, of Jamaica for 33 years and formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington after a long illness.

Born in Belgium on June 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Malcolm B. and Ethel M. Carroll. Mr. Carroll grow up on Staten Island, N.Y., and graduated from The Staten Island Academy and attended New Mexico A&M.

Mr. Carroll was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was northeast regional manager for RosPatch Corp. in New York City. Upon moving to Vermont in 1972, Mr. Carroll was president and owner of Heaslip Fuel, Inc., in Manchester Center.

An avid sailor and ocean racer, Mr. Carroll was a member of the New York Yacht Club, the Richmond County Yacht Club and Richmond County Country Club. He enjoyed soaring in his later years and was a member of the Sugarbush Soaring Club.

Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife of 51 years, Adrienne Evans Carroll; two sons, John E. Carroll of South Londonderry and James M. Carroll of Hinesburg; one daughter, Leslie P. Carroll of Marietta, Ga.; and six grandchildren, Evan M. Carroll, Jamie A. Carroll, Aidan J. Carroll, Alison P. Chatel, Lindsay C. Chatel and Sarah K. Chatel.

A celebration of Mr. Carroll’s life will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Jamaica Community Church, Jamaica.
