Obituary Condolences

POWNAL -- John Masia, 93, a resident of Hidden Valley Road, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Sardinia, town of Argero, Italy on Feb. 12, 1912, he was the son of the late Ralph and Maria (Lotgino) Masia. He received his education in Italy.

Mr. Masia married the former Jennie Vanni on Nov. 9, 1933 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mrs. Masia died March 26, 1991.

For many years Mr. Masia was employed as a plumber in the New York City area. Mr. and Mrs. Masia moved to Vermont in 1965, when they retired.

Mr. Masia was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus while living in the Brooklyn area. He later was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 307 in Bennington. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

Survivors include three sons, Ralph Masia of San Bernadino, Calif., Anthony Masia of Pownal and Joseph Masia of Bennington; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Mr. Masia was predeceased by a sister and two brothers in Italy.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at 2 p.m.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Private committal services will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.
