John G. Matte

1944 - 2012 John G. Matte, 68, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by family. He resided on Rogers Avenue with his wife, Helen.

John was born on Aug. 8, 1944, in St. Alberts, Canada, son of the late Romeo and Yvonne (Page) Matte. He was employed at Eagle Bridge Machine Shop as a machinist before retiring in 1993. John was a member of the Eagles Club, the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping with family, woodworking, and playing cards and dominoes. He was considered by many as "Mr. Fix-It."

Survivors other than his wife, Helen, include daughter Lisa Derosia (William) of Mineral Wells, Texas; son, William (Lisa) of Rome, N.Y.; two brothers, Richard of North Adams, Mass. and Noel Matte of Hoosick Falls; seven sisters, Francoise Matte of Eagle Bridge, N.Y. Suzanne Matte of New Hampshire, Louise Weber of Buskirk, N.Y., Marie Ciuk of Petersburg, N.Y., Diane Baczek of Conneticut, Christine Salvato of Adams, Mass., and Theresa Matte of California; two brothers-in-law, William Starr of Mineral Springs, Texas, and Ervin Starr of Cambridge, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Frances Grant of White Creek; three granddaughters, Kaitlin (Derosia) Blackwell, Sarah (Derosia) Houser, Rebecca Matte; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Gisele Merrills; four brothers, George, Reggie, Yvon, and Robert; and one brother-in-law, Bob Starr.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main St., in Hoosick Falls on Monday from 9 - 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
