BENNINGTON -- John T. Ogilvie, 78, a resident of Jefferson Avenue, Bennington, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at his residence following a long illness.

Born in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. on July 22, 1926, he was the son of the late Alexander R. and Margaret McPherson Ogilvie. He received his education in Bennington and was a 1945 graduate of the former Bennington High School.

Mr. Ogilvie married the former Patricia Rogers at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on July 3, 1948.

For 37 years, Mr. Ogilvie was employed in research and development at Sprague Electric in North Adams. Following his retirement from Sprague, he did consulting work for both Sprague and Tansitor Electronics in Bennington.

In earlier years, he served as president of the Bennington Little League and was also one of the founders of the Bennington County Kennel Club. He enjoyed sport cars and raising standard poodles.

Mr. Ogilvie is survived by his wife, Patricia Ogilvie of Bennington and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Heather Ogilvie and a brother, George Ogilvie.

Private services will take place at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
