Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for John R. McCann were held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church Friday afternoon, where the liturgy of Christian death and burial was offered by the Rev. Robert Lozinski, c.s.c., pastor officiating.

Organist was Donald McMahon and Soloist was Monica Murray. Several musical selections were offered on trumpet by Susan Green. Bagpiper was Ann Spencer who played “Dark Isle Lament” on the pipes.

Scriptural readings were offered by two of Mr. McCanns’ daughters, Cindy Harvey and Collette Schoellkopf. The prayer of the faithful was led by Michael MaCann, a son. The offertory gifts were presented by grandchildren Kathleen Harvey, Megan Harvey, John McCann and Erin McCann. Words of remberance were given by a son, Murray McCann.

The American flag was presented to Mr. McCann’s wife, Rita, by Col. James J. Boutin, Ret., VTARNG. Mr. McCann retired from the U.S. Navy with more than 30 years of service and the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.

Burial took place in the family lot in St. Bernards Cemetery in Fitchburg, Mass.

Mr. McCann, a resident of Washington Avenue, died Sept. 4, 2003 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
