HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. -- John R. Sullivan, 81, a resident of Hopewell Junction, died on Monday, June 26, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

In 1990, he retired from Gestetner Corporation in Yonkers. He was also employed by Anaconda Wire and Cable Co. in Hastings. He was a member of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, NY and the American Legion, Manny Bacon Post #1758.

Born in the Bronx on Aug. 14, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Alice Raab Sullivan. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Fort Sampson Naval Base in New York in addition to Memphis, Tenn., Alameda, Calif., St. Albans and Lido Beach. John was honorably discharged in 1946.

On Sept. 12, 1948, he married Doris Rehm in Yonkers. Mrs. Sullivan survives at home. Other survivors include his daughter Dianne Bolza and her husband, Richard, of Bennington, Vt.; sons Warren Sullivan and Edward Sullivan of Hopewell Junction and John Sullivan, Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; sister Jane Sullivan of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren Richard W. Bolza, Krystal and Eric McCabe and Jennifer, John, Kyle and Matthew Sullivan. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Sullivan McCabe on Sept. 5, 2001.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.
