Obituary Condolences

SWANTON -- John W. King, 65, a resident of Comstock Road, died early Monday morning, Oct. 4, 2004, in the Northwestern Medical Center in Saint Albans City, in his wife’s loving arms, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in North Bennington Aug. 17, 1939, he was the son of the late Seth W. and Florence A. (Sausville) King. He received his education in Bennington schools.

John married Loretta M. Young at Christ the King Church in Rutland on July 15, 1991, with the Rev. Richard W. Tinney officiating. He was previously married to the former Marie Boden, who died Aug. 14, 1989.

For 18 years, John was employed as a drug and alcohol counselor at Serenity House in Wallingford. He was a member of both the Vermont National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors and attended certification courses at the University of Vermont and Rutgers University.

Following retirement, he volunteered at the Harbor Club in Saint Albans, where he touched many lives.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta King of Swanton, and her sons who loved John as a father, Michael, Kevin and John Cline; five stepchildren from his first marriage, Donna Lawler, Alice Monica, Marie Butler, George Cesarski and Edward Souther; four sisters, Donna A. Andrews of Jeffersonville, Ga., Marlene P. Cashes of Dudley, Mass., Linda Hurley of Shaftsbury and Mary A. Lane of Cambridge, N.Y.; an aunt, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Seth D. King and Richard J. King.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday, Oct. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. Committal Services will take place Friday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington.

John had a great love for animals, especially his pets Jesse, Missy, Pete and Kitty. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, Saint Albans, VT 05478.
