Obituary Condolences

Jonathan L. Rounds

1955-2010 POWNAL Jonathan "Johnny" Lee Rounds, 54, of Pownal, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010.

Born in Bennington on Aug. 24, 1955, Johnny was the third child born to Charles and Mary Jane Andrews Rounds. He graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School and Building Trades program in 1973.

Johnny was a "worker", holding down two jobs at a time most of his adult life. He worked for Steiner Film in Williamstown, Mass. for over 25 years, NAPA Auto Parts in Bennington and Williamstown, Mobile Industries in Pownal, and for most general contractors in Pownal. A master painter, he took great pride in the results of his hard work.

Dedicated to his community, Johnny served many years with the Pownal Center Rescue Squad and Fire Department. He also served with the Sons of the American Legion in Pownal for several years.

An outdoorsman and family man, his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his friends and family. He enjoyed home cooking and always brought much laughter to the table with his joke-telling ability. His laugh was like no other.

Johnny had a great personality with a heart beyond compare, and was an all around good guy. It was often said that if you were off the road in Pownal, Johnny would be the first to offer a hand. He saw the best in everyone and viewed every hurdle in life as a chance to grow.

He leaves his mother, Mary Jane Rounds, of Mount Dora, Fla.; two daughters, Jody Rounds of Rutland, Vt. and Tiffany Rounds and her friend, Ryan, of Pownal; two brothers and two sisters, including Jennifer Rounds Nelson and husband, Bill, of Ryegate, Vt., Jeffrey Rounds and wife, Elaine, of Lansing, Kan., Thomas Rounds and wife, Michelle, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Wendy Rounds Clark of Mount Dora, Fla.; two stepchildren, Randa Bartholdi-Howe and Rick Bartholdi; and one step-grandchild, Devin; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, who thought the world of him.

He was predeceased by his father, Charles W. Rounds, in 1988.

A loving son and devoted father, we will all miss Johnny's big heart, his dedication to family and friends, his sharp wit, and his tremendous sense of humor.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 4, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Pownal Community Church with the Reverend Mark Herrick, officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal. Friends may call at THE MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 6 - 8:30 p.m.
