Joseph Badagliacco 1925 - 2008 BENNINGTON Joseph B. Badagliacco, 83, of Niantic, passed away on Tuesday, Sep. 16, at the Sava Health Care Center at Bride Brook. He was born Aug. 1, 1925, in New York City, N.Y., son of Gaetano and Concetta Federico Badagliacco. He was educated in Brooklyn, N.Y. public schools until he dropped out in his second year of high school, to help support his family. His intention was to return to school, and in 1975 he received his High School Equivalency Diploma through Sheepshead Bay High School, Brooklyn, N.Y. His working career was varied. He was a mechanic at the Brooklyn Ship Yards, sailed on oil tankers for ESSO, worked in the engine room of ships for Military Sea Transport Service, insurance salesperson, school bus driver and milk man. For the last 17 years before his retirement in 1990 he was self employed as a provisions vendor to restaurants and delis, in his business called Su-zan Provisions. He was always a truck driver at heart. On Feb. 20, 1960, he and the former Suzanne Cardinal were wed in St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, Vt. After many years of living in Brooklyn, N.Y., he and his wife relocated to Connecticut to be near relatives. A communicant of St. Agnes Parish, his favorite sport was ten pin bowling and he rooted for the New York Mets through thick and thin. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and most of all being with his family. In addition to his wife Suzanne, he leaves a sister, Rose Veltri of Staten Island, N.Y.; his brother's widow, Connie Badagliacco of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his brother in law, Stan Cardinal and his wife Diane, of Stonington; nine nieces and nephews; eighteen great-nieces and nephews and four great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Badagliacco. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will assemble on Friday, Sept. 19, 9:15 a.m. from the THOMAS L. NEILAN & SONS EAST LYME FUNERAL HOME, 48 Grand Street, Niantic, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial Celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, Haigh Ave, Niantic. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Avenue, New London. Calling hours are Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
