SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Joseph Daniel Capano, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany after a short illness. He resided with his wife, Carol (Johnson) Capano, in Schenectady.

Joe was born on March 15, 1931 in Hoosick Falls, son of the late Daniel and Mary (Liporace) Capano. He graduated from Hoosick Falls Central School and SUNY Potsdam. Joe served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He owned Heirloom Industries, a company that he started and operated for many years until retiring.

An avid sportsman, Joe had a passion for outdoor sports. He fished, hunted and golfed. His fishing and hunting trips took him around the United States, and to Canada, South America and Africa. Joe will be most remembered for his dedication to his family, his generous spirit and enthusiasm for life.

Survivors include his wife Carol; three daughters, Ann Hendricks of Clifton Park and Catherine Hepler and Susan Dingman, both of Vestal; a son, Joseph Capano of Richmond, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Michael, Brent, Amanda, Daniel, Jesi, Vinnie and Eric. He is also survived by four sisters, Lena Sargood, Anna Pappas and Evelyn LaPorte, all of Hoosick Falls, and Mary Jane Comanzo of Schenectady; a brother, John Capano of Hoosick Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2:15 p.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 3 p.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from noon until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
