VERSHIRE - Joseph E. Miner, 62, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 20, 2008 at his home.
Born on Feb. 23, 1946 in Cohes, N.Y., son of Eugene and Helen Spiak Miner, he grew up in Postenkill, N.Y., and graduated from Troy High School in 1963.
He served with the Navy Reserve in the Construction Battalion immediately following high school and spent a period of time overseas.
While he was working for Monument Roofing Company, he went back to school at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
In 1985, he and his wife, Linda, owned and operated Liberty Sheet Metal in Bennington and in 1987 he went to work at Dee's Electric out of Manchester. In 1996 they moved to Vershire, and in 1997 he went to work as the Sheet Metal Supervisor for ARC Mechanical in Bradford. Joe led by example and is fondly remembered by his coworkers as Joemama.
Joseph was a good teacher and a "jack of all trades". He was extremely smart and had a good sense of humor. He was a devoted family man who was straightforward and honest and had a smile that could touch your heart. The family remembers him having a sharp mind in that he could find solutions to problems that arose. Some of his interests included gun collecting, target practice and gardening. He was especially fond of his cats and his dog, Mystic. Joe was very creative and liked to make all kinds of flowers and plants out of copper sheeting, and was planning on opening a small business to sell these copper creations when he retired.
He leaves his wife, the former Linda M. Walsh, whom he married Aug. 7, 1982 in Sunderland.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Daniel Miner and Eric Miner, both of New York, Joe Miner of Wisconsin and Joshua Miner of Vermont; four step -daughters, Lindee Clingenpeel of Vermont, Petra Longley of California, Ericka Longley of North Carolina and Tammy Brenner of Colorado; 13 grandchildren, a great -grandchild; two sisters, Judy Donah and Sylvia Bourroughs, both of New York, and several nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be Friday, April 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Vershire Town Hall with the Rev. Tom Harty officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vershire Fire and Rescue Squad, 6335 VT Route 113, Vershire, VT 5079.
