Joseph F. Mayer, Jr. 1947 - 2009 BENNINGTON Joseph Frederick Mayer, Jr., 61, of Abbott Street died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at his home, following a brief illness. Born in Bennington on Dec. 3, 1947, the son of the late Joseph F. Mayer Sr. and Aline Quineville Mayer, he received his education in local schools. Joseph served with the Navy during the Viet Nam Era. He was employed St. Gobain Plastics in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., for over 17 years, and was a supervisor when he left their employment. Joseph was a member of the American Legion Post#13 in Bennington and a former member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW Post #1332 of Bennington. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, casinos, and traveling. He loved ships and lighthouses. He leaves his wife, the former Louise Sandage, whom he married April 15, 2006, in Bennington. Besides his wife, he leaves one son, Joseph F. Mayer III of Bennington; his daughter, Andrea Mayer of Bennington; one step-son, David Ryan of Bennington; five brothers, Bernard Mayer, Andre Mayer, Robert Mayer, Florian Mayer and Maurice Mayer; six sisters, Denise Griffis, Lillian Wilcox, Margaret Boggs, Alice Slade, Rita Callorio and Linda Beckett; seven grandchildren, Samantha, Christopher, Tre, Alyne, William (B.J.) Jadyn and Dante; his ex-wife, Linda Mayer of Las Vegas, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Roland Mayer, Henry Mayer, and by sisters, Irene Sweet, and Lorraine Mayer. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the family lot in Hinsdillville Cemetery in North Bennington. At Mr. Mayer's request, there will be no calling hours scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the support of the family through Mrs. Louise Mayer, and may be forwarded to the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
