BURLINGTON -- Joseph F. “Ted” McGrath Jr., 74, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at his home following a long illness.

He was born in Staten Island, N.Y., on Sept. 10, 1930, the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Neubauer) McGrath.

Joseph served in the U.S. Army. On Nov. 11, 1953, he married Renate Mutschler in Heidenheim, Germany. He was a member of St. Anthony and Christ the King parish.

He loved to be with his family and enjoyed Vermont’s natural beauty. He was passionate about classical music and growing his own orchids.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Renate of Burlington; four children, Timothy J. and his wife Ann of Burtonsville, Md., Kathleen M. Lawrence and her husband Ron of Jericho, Barbara M. Desmond and her husband Donald of Concord, N.H. and Karen P. McGrath of Essex Junction; nine grandchildren, Richard, Kendra, Christopher, Peter, Michael, Ellen, Casey, Maureen and Daniel; one brother, John “Jack” McGrath of Essex Junction and a large extended family. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald McGrath.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 28, at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church with interment to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery, South Burlington.

For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to the Vermont Food Bank, Barre. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road.
