Joseph F. Sausville Obituary
Bennington - Joseph Francis Sausville, born October 16, 1939 to the late Catherine (Foley) Sausville and William Sausville passed away on Tuesday December 5, 2017 after a battle with cancer. He was able to remain at home surrounded by his family.

Joseph, known to most as Joe, grew up in the Brooklyn section of Bennington and remained in the area his entire life, where he attended local schools. In 1960 he married Alice Mae Elwell and then went on to serve in the Army from 1963 to 1965, with placement in South Korea monitoring the DMZ. After returning from duty he went into the construction business, working for local companies before striking out on his own. He proceeded to build the family home that he resided in until his death.

He was a lover of life. His primary love was his family, wife, 3 girls and their families, sharing his hobbies and stories and thoroughly enjoying his interactions with his grandchildren. He also took great pleasure in hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling over the years, as well as spending time with friends. He was an active member of the Southern Vermont Snowgoers, where he was once trail master. In later years, while owning his own construction business, he worked on many projects, along with building 3 houses for his daughters. He is also credited with the restoration of the White Chapel Church in Bennington.

To his friends and family, he will always be remembered for his infectious laugh and witty sense of humor, along with many practical jokes along the way.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Alice M. Sausville, his 3 daughters and their spouses, Beth Sausville and Michael Welch, Lynn and Michael Andrews, and Betsy and Michael Madison, four grandchildren, Michael and Megan Andrews, and Camden and Kendal Madison, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Aside from his parents, he is also predeceased by his brothers, William Sausville, Paul Sausville, and Thomas Sausville, and his last beloved collie MacGregor.

SERVICES: There will be no formal services, as this was Joe's wishes. A celebration of his life will follow at a later time for close friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, friends may donate on Joe's behalf to the White Chapel Church through Mahar and Son funeral home.
