Joseph P. Fleming

1951-2014 RUTLAND Joseph P. Fleming, 63, of Rutland died Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Rutland January 3, 1951 the son of Richard and Mary (Palmer) Fleming. Joseph was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy class of 1969. Joe was employed as a curator of the Bennington Museum, Rutland Contract Cleaners and by the United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife Cathy (Grabowski) Fleming of Rutland; one son, Jason Fleming and wife, Allison of North Bennington and their children, Josh Harvey, Sean P. Fleming and Madelyn Fleming; a daughter, Robyn M. Fleming of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Gerald Fleming of Rutland and Michael Fleming of Piermont, N.H.; five sisters , Marianne Pharr of Griffin, Ga., Kathleen Donnelly of Hawthorne, Fla., Colleen Goodrich of West Rutland, Madeline Eck of White River Jct. and Margaret Hogan of Piermont, N.H.; several nieces and nephews that he cherished; and a very good friend, Shawn Burns. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Richard Fleming and a sister, Patricia Allen. Joseph enjoyed listening and connecting to young people, often giving them the time and compassion they couldn't get elsewhere. His door was always open to a neighborhood kid or a niece or nephew that needed help with the challenges of life. He was an avid sports fan, and loved his Boston teams. The success of the Red Sox and the Patriots brought him great joy. Joseph was always up for a sports conversation and you would be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable fan. He also loved his dogs. The companionship and entertainment they provided him over the years was priceless. Anyone close to Joseph knows, that his wife, children, and grandchildren were his everything. His love for them was unconditional and unwavering; they were his world. His smile, his laugh, and the pure kindness of heart will be dearly missed by all that were ever close to him. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 at 1 p.m. at CLIFFORD FUNERAL HOME in Rutland. Officiating will be Rev. Justin Baker, Pastor of Christ the King Church. Contributions may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society.
