SARASOTA, Fla. -- Joseph Lionel Burke, former resident of Bennington, Vt., and St. Petersburg, died March 22, 2005, at Springs Health Center, Sarasota, after a prolonged illness.

J.L. Burke was born in Laconia, N.H., Nov. 27, 1910, son of Joseph Felix Burke and Roseanna (Auger) Burke.

In Bennington, he was the proprietor of Burke’s Radio and Television Sales and Services on West Main Street, which he operated for more than 25 years.

About 1955, J.L. sold his business and moved to St. Petersburg, where he retired with Mary (LeBlanc) Burke, his wife of 53 years and his son, William L. Burke, both of whom have predeceased him.

He is survived by two sisters, Sister Stella Burke and Sister Ann Francis Burke, who are religious women in the teaching community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Rutland, Vt., and nephews, nieces and cousins.

The funeral services for J. Lionel Burke took place on Easter Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota. His body now rests next to his wife in a crypt in Clearwater.

The funeral arrangements were under the care of Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota.
