Joseph Jerome Slizis Sr. 1932-2012 Mr. Joseph Jerome Slizis Sr., 79 of 21 Oxford Dr. Enfield, Conn., died Friday February 3, 2012 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Most recently, he had been a resident of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. He was born in Scranton, Pa., on August 4, 1932, son of Joseph and Anna (Matusavicz) Slizis. He graduated from Wilby High School in Waterbury, Conn., with the class of 1950 and also attended Kansas State Teachers College. Mr. Slizis served in the US Air Force for over 20 years and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He had resided in Enfield, Conn., for over 40 years, where he was a communicant of St. Martha's Church. Joseph enjoyed automobiles and loved to give to his favorite charities including the DAV, Little Sisters of the Poor St. Joseph's Residence in Enfield; Archbishop's Annual Appeal; the ; Catholic Relief Services; the Franciscan Missions; and the NTL Shrine of St. Jude. Joseph was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter 47 in South Windsor where he was on the Grand Memorial Honor Roll of Distinguished Donors. He was also a charter sponsor of the Air Force Memorial Foundation and an honorary member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Survivors include one son- Joseph J. Slizis Jr. of Enfield, Conn., one daughter; Pattie Ann Oates of Enfield, Conn., one sister- Adele Donnelly of Cheshire, Conn., Two nieces; Cheryl Donnelly and Mary Louise Burdulis, one nephew- Bruce Donnnelly. He also leaves two lifelong loving and caring friends- Johanna and Rodney Salamone of Readsboro, Vt. A sister, Ann Burdulis is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Joseph Slizis are private.
