1993 - 2010

WHITE CREEK, NY Joseph Elden Sweeney, 16, a resident of County Route 68, died unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center on March 12, 2010.

He was born in Bennington, Vt., on July 12, 1993, and was the son of Jules and Dorothy "Dee Dee" Doyle Sweeney, who survive.

Joseph was currently attending Hoosick Falls High School and had recently received a letter of interest for acceptance from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.

Joseph was an avid "paintball" enthusiast and video game player. He had played Little League baseball and youth football. He enjoyed fishing and was a talented marksman.

He was currently restoring a 1977 Corvette that had been his father's and a Pontiac Trans AM with his brother, Jeremy. He had been helping at Sorel's Diner in Hoosick.

Besides his parents of White Creek and his brother, Jeremy Metcalfe, of Cambridge, he leaves four sisters, Jessica Sweeney of Hoosick Falls, Lisa Johnson, Julie Sweeney, and Kathy Ladd, all of Belchertown, Mass.; his cousin, Shayna Doyle of White Creek, and niece, Hannah Johnson, and nephews, Tommy and Noah Johnson, all of Belchertown, Mass.; his aunt, Christine Powell, and cousins, Tommy and Tyler Powell, all of Middletown, Conn.; his maternal grandfather, Bill Doyle of Bennington, Vt., and maternal grandmother, Dottie Doyle of Wallingford, Conn. Joseph also had many friends whom he loved with all his heart.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at the Center White Creek Baptist Church at 1 p.m., with Pastor Clyde Fobes officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Interment will take place in the family lot in the Center White Creek Cemetery. In Joey's honor, everyone is invited to wear their "Camo." Paintball enthusiasts are invited to bring their guns to offer a Paintball salute at the cemetery.
