RED BANK, N.J. -- Joseph Thomas Sessock, 81, died Oct. 26 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt., where he had resided the past few months, he had lived most of his life in Red Bank. Born in Hazelton, Pa. on Feb. 27, 1922 he was the son of the late John and Susan (Rubbetz) Sessock. Joseph had served honorably as a Staff Sargent with the 11th armored division during World War II. He was in the first wave of the troops that landed in Normandy, and was the recipient of the Bronze Star as well as other medals of honor.

He had worked as a purchasing agent at both General Instrument and Bendix Corp. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church and was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved woodworking, gardening, playing golf, fishing and enjoyed other outdoor sports with his sons.

He leaves his wife of 57 years Mary (Reba) Sessock of Red Bank, his five children, Martina Sessock Marian and her husband Michael of Northboro, Mass, Joseph Sessock and his wife Susan of Castleton, Vt., David Sessock and his wife Cindy of Dubois, Wyo., Mark Sessock and his wife Michele of Locust, N.J., and John Sessock of Woodbridge, Va., 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Paul Sessock. The memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. from St. James Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank, entombment will follow in Mt. Olivette Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts be made in memory of Mr. Sessock to the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, VT 05201.
