Josephine S. Warren Obituary
On Sunday, March 5, 2017, Josie Warren slipped "down the rabbit hole." Josie, age 86, of South Burlington, resided at Grand Way Commons after leaving the North Bennington area.

Josie was born on February 28, 1931 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Josephine Dodge and Malcolm Stanley. She was a 1949 high school graduate of St. Margaret's School. In 1967, she graduated from Fanny Allen School of Nursing with advanced training in surgery.

After marrying Franklin Warren of Dorset, Vt., Josie had four sons and two daughters. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Anne Stanley Creed, Betsy Stanley and Sheila Stanley; and her grandson, Thomas Warren. She is survived by her sister, Gail Stanley of South Dennis, Mass.; her brother, Jim Montague and wife Linda of West Rupert, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Josie is also survived by her children, Joel Warren and wife Pam of Bennington, Vt., Helen Rugg and husband Jake of Burlington, Vt., Gary Warren and wife Kim of Bennington, Sharon Maguire of Houston, Tex., retired Lt. Col. Matthew Warren of Bennington, and Dan Warren and wife Peggy of Colchester, Vt. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren Josh, Nathanael, Molly, Clancy, Wesley, Eric, Samantha, Heather, Patrick, Charlie, Kate and Nancy. She leaves six great-grandchildren.

Josie's interests included her children, farming, draft horses, gardening, the New England Patriots, the Boston Celtics, fishing and travel.

Josie enjoyed 28 years in senior housing. During her last two years at Grand Way Commons, she made many great friends and loved her garden. On her 86th birthday, she moved to the McClure Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester, where she spent her final days.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful hospice team, including Mel and Kelsey, the doctors and staff at the Respite House, and Linda Ready of Grand Way Commons.

Following Josie's wishes, there will be no services. Her family will spread her ashes in the summer.

Arrangements are in the care of the Cremation Society of Chittenden County.
