Joyce Andrews Obituary




Joyce Bliss Andrews, 91, a resident of School St. in Bennington, VT died Sunday December 11, 2016 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a brief illness.

She was born in Newport, VT October 1, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Lucien and Ruth (Lemere) Bliss. She received her education in Newport and was a graduate of the former Newport High School Class of 1943.

In earlier years Mrs. Andrews was employed at F.W. Woolworth's in Bennington and later at Wills Insurance as a customer service representative until the time of her retirement in 1988. She also worked part-time at the Grand Union and at the Bennington Senior Citizen Center.

Mrs. Andrews was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary and the Women of the Moose.

Joyce was a very active volunteer with various area organizations including AARP, the Bennington Free Library, the Court Diversion program and also served as guardian ad litum. She enjoyed reading and needle work, playing cards and traveling.

Survivors include one son, Wilbur Andrews of Millbury, MA, two daughter- in laws Susan Andrews and Cynthia Andrews both of Bennington; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, along with several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and cousins. She was pre-deceased by two sons, Michael Andrews who died in 1993 and Steven Andrews who died in 2015.

SERVICES: Services for Joyce will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

The burial will take place in the family lot at White Chapel Cemetery.
