Obituary Condolences

SALEM, N.Y. -- Joyce B. Stout, 80, of Salem passed away peacefully Thursday night, Aug. 30, 2007, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Joyce was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Cherry Valley, the daughter of the late John and Lois Gardner Burke. Joyce graduated from Middlebury High School in Middlebury, Vt., and received her master’s degree from Cortland State College. She was a physical education teacher for two years at Argyle Central School and then became a physical education teacher and later taught elementary education at Salem Central School for 32 years, retiring in 1982.

Joyce was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Joyce found enjoyment being with her grandchildren and watching them play sports. She also looked forward to going to the family camp in Fern Lake, Vt. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Gerald E. Stout, who passed away Sept. 23, 1993.

She is survived by her two loving sons and their wives, Tom Stout and his wife Tracy of South Burlington, Vt., and Calvin Stout and his wife Christine of Greenwich. She is also survived by two brothers, John Burke of Londonderry, N.H., and William Burke of Burlington; a sister, Phyllis Cunningham of Middlebury; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church, 29 West Broadway, Salem with the Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Interment will follow the service in Evergreen Cemetery in Salem.
