Joyce E. Baker 1926 - 2008 NORTH PAWLET Joyce E. Baker passed away on Oct. 10, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born on April 28, 1926, in Whitehall, N.Y., daughter of John and Rose Viau McCabe. She was raised by her mother and step-father Edward K. Baker. She was a graduate of Mildred Elly Business School. She had been employed by George Clark at the former Butternut Bend Store. Joyce's faith was of extreme importance to her. She was a pillar of St. Frances Cabrini Church where she was active on the Parish Council and St. Frances Cabrini Society. In addition to her role of bookkeeper for the parish, she was also active in the Bishop's Fund Appeal as well as teaching religious instruction and singing in the choir. Joyce was involved in the Literacy Program at the Pawlet School for many years. She was a Cub Scout Leader, a member of the North Pawlet Sewing Circle and a charter member of the Pawlett Historical Society. Joyce was a member of the Pawlet School Board for over 15 years and received state recognition for her many years of service. In addition to being an exemplary wife, mother and homemaker she was the primary caregiver for her parents and her husband for over 25 years. In addition to her parents, step-father and two brothers: William E. McCabe and Fred C. Baker, Joyce was predeceased in 2003 by her husband Charles "W" Baker, whom she wed on May 25, 1945. She leaves her four daughters; Marie LaBarbera, and her husband, John, of Indiana, and their children Christoforo, and Edwardo; Roseanne Meier, and her husband, Dan, of Virginia, and their children Karl and his wife, Katie, John and Kathleen; Susan Fragnoli Hosley, and her husband, Terry, of North Pawlet and her daughter, Carrie Fragnoli Johnson, and her husband Jeremy, and Charlene Webster and her husband, Charles, of Arlington, Vt.; a son Charles W. Baker and his wife Andrea of Townshend, Vt., and their children Shannon Astolfi, and her husband, Tony, and Caitlin Baker. She also leaves a great-grandchild, Charlie Ray Johnson, two sister-in-laws, Karen Baker of Saranac Lake, and Mabel Baker Connors of New Milford, Pa. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church in West Pawlet, VT with the Rev. Thomas Zelker presiding. Burial will follow at Mountainview Cemetery in W. Pawlet. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon, October 12, 2008 from 1-5 PM at Joyce's home, 8 N. Pawlet Road in North Pawlet. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions to Dorset Nursing Assoc. POB 549, Dorset, VT 05251 or the Granville Rescue Squad, POB 153, Granville, NY 12832.
