Joyce P. LaFlamme

1928-2010 BENNINGTON Joyce Phoebe LaFlamme, 82, a resident of Rivers Edge Community Care Home in Bennington, where she made her home since 2005 and was very happy and comfortable, and a former resident of Peru and Shaftsbury, Vt., died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Shaftsbury, Vt., Mar. 24, 1928, daughter of the late George and Hattie O'Connell Moffitt, she received her education in Shaftsbury and North Bennington.

Over the years, Joyce worked in several area restaurants and motels.

Joyce enjoyed reading, gardening, flowers, bird watching, the outdoors, her cats, crossword puzzles and watching soap operas. Joyce had a dry Vermont sense of humor.

She leaves two sons, Michael Myers and his wife, Laurie, of Bennington, and Joseph LaFlamme and his wife, Fran, of New Haven, Mo.; a daughter, Brenda Lettre and her husband, Jack, of Bennington; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Cross of Shaftsbury; four brothers, Harold Moffit and Sherman Moffitt of Peru, Howard Moffitt of Georgia, and Raymond Moffitt of Shaftsbury; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Myers; four brothers, Duncan, Edward, Calvin and Donald Moffitt; and a sister, Lorraine Petras.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington on Friday, Apr. 2, 2010 from 11 a.m. until noon. A graveside service will be held at the family lot at Maple Hill Cemetery in Shaftsbury, Vt. on Friday at 12:30 p.m.

If friends desire contributions in memory of Joyce Phoebe LaFlamme may be made to the Vermont Alzheimers Association or the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
