BENNINGTON -- Julia Canfield, widow of Richard F. Canfield, a resident of Stark Street, Bennington, died peacefully Saturday, July 7, 2007, at her residence.

Born in Rensselaer, New York Feb. 11, in a year which she kept a closely guarded secret, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ellen (Ryan) Tyrrell. She received her education in the Rensselaer schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Canfield were married in East Greenbush, N.Y., April 7, 1937. Mr. Canfield died Aug. 21, 1986.

She was employed for many years as a telephone operator by AT&T in both Albany and Rensselaer.

Mrs. Canfield enjoyed all kinds of crafts, especially knitting, crocheting and quilting. She was also a member of AARP.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Gerald Albert of Bennington; a granddaughter, Ellen Albert of Wynantskill, N.Y.; two grandsons and their spouses, Michael and Kimberly Albert of Walloomsac, N.Y., and Richard and Julie Albert of Bennington and a grandson, Jeremy Albert of Bennington; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Rembert Albert; a sister, Dorothy Earley of Rensselaer, N.Y., and a nephew, James Earley of Albany, N.Y.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Monday evening.

Burial will take place in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in East Greenbush, N.Y., where committal services will take place on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Should friends desire, contributions in Mrs. Julia Canfield’s memory may be made to either the Second Chance Animal Shelter or the Bennington Lions Club through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
