Obituary Condolences

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- June Aurelia Peters Eldred, 80, of Hoosick Falls, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington, Vt., after a long illness which she endured bravely.

Born July 14, 1927, in Valley Falls, N.Y., June spent her childhood years in Hoosick Falls. She remembered a simpler time then of playing hopscotch, roller skating down Parson’s Avenue to Classic Street School, and laying in the summer grass listening to Wednesday night band concerts. She attended Hoosick Falls High School and also Troy High School where she graduated in 1949. She married William Eldred of Potter Hill in 1951 and worked at the Interstate Claims Service in Troy until her first child was born. Her three daughters, Faye, June, and Janice, remained her central focus throughout her life. She also took great delight in the birth of her granddaughter, Alie, and enjoyed watching her grow into adolescence.

Besides her family, June’s life centered around her religious faith community and her friends. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Hoosick Falls and found great comfort in her faith. She enjoyed music and especially liked to sing her favorite hymns. Her friends were also very important to her. She maintained several close friendships throughout her life.

Immediate survivors include her daughters, Faye Eldred Mihuta and her husband, James, of Saratoga Springs, June Eldred Horton and her husband, Allan, of Wilmington, Mass., and Janice Eldred of Putney, Vt.; and her granddaughter, Alie Mihuta, of Saratoga Springs.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Hoosick, N.Y., on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. There will be a visiting hour beginning at 1 p.m. Pastor Dale Hall will be officiating. Friends and family are invited to bring wildflowers to the service if they wish.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crescent Manor Care Center, 312 Crescent Blvd., Bennington, Vt. 05201, The Danforth, 19 Danforth Street, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
