1935-2013 BENNINGTON June M. Edgar, age 78, a longtime resident of Cross St. in Bennington, died on Friday morning, December 6, 2013 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Malden, Mass. on June 9, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (Gibbs) Luce. She received her education in Massachusetts. She married Everett in Malden, MA. He survives. The Edgars moved to Bennington in 1965. For many years, June had been employed in the Bennington School system, first as a food service person for 30 years and as a paraprofessional following that from 1988 until her retirement in 1999. She loved working with the school children. June was very active in the Lady Shriners, Arat Court or Arlington, Vt., and enjoyed being in the Clown Brigade. She has also volunteered at the VA Clinic in Bennington for several years. June loved to read, play cribbage and travel, both domestically and internationally. Her biggest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Janice Brewington and her husband Robert of Seffner, Fla.; her son, Fred Edgar and his wife Nancy of Mt. Pleasant, S.C;, and her daughter Suzanna Bauman and her husband William of Melbourne, Fla.; her grandchildren, Andrea Oakley, Jason Oakley, Cortney Hanson, Justin Edgar, Ryan Bauman and Hannah Bauman; as well as her great-grandchildren. June also leaves her sister, Emily Bruno and brother, Michael Luce and his wife Sandy, all of Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday afternoon, December 9, 2013 at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Richard McSherry, pastor of the Shaftsbury United Methodist, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
