Karl Andrew Pfister 1980-2010 WESTON - Karl Andrew Pfister, 30, died unexpectedly September 1, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Karl was always proud to be Vermonter. He was born in Springfield Hospital on July 10, 1980 to his loving parents, Karl T. and Nicole Pfister. He grew up in Weston and Landgrove where his younger years were filled with downhill skiing, snowboarding, hiking, horses, haying and the Pfister Pfarm. He excelled in cross-country skiing and was an enthusiastic member of the Bill Koch League. Karl was a devoted brother to his beloved younger sister Joanna. After graduating from Long Trail School, he went onto study at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and was currently enrolled at University of Vermont in Burlington. While in Colorado he worked on a horse farm in Meeker and developed an interest in fly fishing and road biking. Karl loved snowboarding, wave running, flying down mountains on his road bike, keeping in close touch with his friends, helping others, and had a passion for living life to its fullest. Karl was currently living in Colchester, Vt. and was involved in establishing a new small business with close friend Chad Prouty. Between making renovations on his home, being involved with his business and wave running on Mallets Bay, Karl enjoyed making frequent trips to Southern Vermont to visit his family as well as to Fenway Park to cheer on the Boston Red Sox. A true celebration of Karl's life was held on September 6, 2010 at the Old Parish Church in Weston, Vermont led by Pastor Margaret of the Peru Congregational Church and Rev. Jon Bliss of the Old Parish Church. Speakers included his father, Karl T. Pfister, his sister Joanna MacArthur Pfister, close friends Chad Prouty, Jerry Evarts, Marshall Thomson, and Thomas Logan. Other close friends served as ushers: Casey Hodge, Nate Petraska, Adam Petraska, Mike Batogowski, Ryan Foster, Ethan Foster, and Willie Reed. The family was truly moved by the number of people in attendance and the joy that was shared by all as Karl's life was commemorated. Following the service, friends and family gathered to embrace the beautiful afternoon as Karl would have done. Karl's family is overwhelmed and so very grateful for the generosity, love and support shown to them by the entire community that made this occasion a celebration of joy and love. His ashes will be distributed in the places he loved best: the mountains of Colorado, the waters of Mallet's Bay, the fields in Landgrove, and in Weston. In addition to his father, mother and sister, survivors include his two grandfathers, his maternal grandmother, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless devoted friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Neighbor's Pantry PO Box 77, Londonderry, VT 05148; Mountain Valley Medical Clinic in PO Box 310, Londonderry, VT 05148 or the MS Society at http://www.nationalmssociety.org/donate/index.aspx. Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester, VT was entrusted with the care of Karl's funeral arrangements.
