Katherine N. Maroney Obituary
Katherine N. Maroney, 98, a former resident of Washington Avenue, died Saturday, August 26, 2017 in ICU at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness with family at her side.

Born in Hartford, CT on November 24, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Goady) Maroney. She received her education in local schools including St. Josephs Business College (Southern Vermont College).

Survivors include a sister, Mary Green of Bennington and many nieces and nephews including her niece Dr. Anne Harris of NH and Ed and Erin Howard of MA (children of Kim Harris Howard). Katherine was predeceased by seven siblings; Shirley Harris, Allena Legacy, Beatrice Forrest, Edwin, Ronald, Norbert and Thomas Maroney, several nephews and nieces, including Kimberley Harris Howard.

Katherine put God, church and family first. She was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales church and attended mass daily after she retired. Family was important to Katherine. For many years, she resided with her sister, Shirley Harris and brother, Thomas (Sonny) Maroney along with Shirley's two daughters - Kimberley and Anne.

Kay enjoyed family activities and outings with them and others including picnics and vacations at Lake St. Catherine. In her early years, she was the family photographer capturing many wonderful family

moments. Later in life, she enjoyed visiting Kim and Anne at their out-of-state homes. Both Kim and Anne were special to Katherine. Another niece who was exceptional to Katherine was Patricia Maroney Smith who visited her several times a week, updated her on events and assisted her with her needs. Katherine was always grateful of Patty's faithfulness.

In earlier years, Katherine was employed at the Union Carbide Corporation and later at Bijur Lubricating Company until her retirement in 1984. For several years she was a member of the Bennington Senior Citizens Club. She also enjoyed going out to dinner and walks with friends, sculpting pottery, and refinishing furniture. In later years she enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles and watching mass on TV. Katherine was good-hearted, strong, capable, hard-working woman who will be missed by family and friends.
