Katherine Veronica "Kate" Probola 1923-2011 BENNINGTON Mrs. Katherine Veronica "Kate" Probola, 88, widow of Walter John Probola, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation where she had lived for the past six months. Born March 31, 1923 in Trenton, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Urban and Anastasia (Stercula) Walachy. She received her education in the Trenton schools. Walt and Kate were married on November 24, 1945 in Trenton. For many years Kate was employed as a cook and baker by the Trenton school system. In 1985 they retired to West Palm Beach, Florida where they lived for nine years before moving to Vermont to be near their family. Mr. Probola died January 8, 2010. A former resident of the Village at Fillmore Pond, Kate enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandson , JP. She was an avid New York Yankee fan. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Dianne Probola of Bennington; a grandson and his wife, James A (JP) and Joanna (Bolton) Probola of San Diego, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Katherine Grace Probola, Lillian Devorah Probola and David Edward Probola, all of San Diego; a brother, Thomas Walachy of Baton Rouge, La., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five siblings, John, Urban and Michael Walachy, Mary Jones and Madeline Biache. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations in Katherine V. Probola's memory may be made to the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
