MANCHESTER -- Kathleen Kieffer Ludlam, 94, formerly of 140 Mad Tom Road, East Dorset, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007.

She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Aug. 18, 1913, to Lieutenant and Mrs. Phillip James Kieffer. Upon graduation from the Forest Hills Academy, on Long Island, Kathleen Kieffer worked as the assistant to the Vice President of NBC Radio. She met her future husband, George P. Ludlam, at NBC.

In 1943, they married at St. Stephen’s Church, in Hollywood, Calif.

Soon, they moved to Garden City, N.Y., where they lived until Mr. Ludlam’s retirement from the Advertising Council, a public service advertising company he helped to found during the war. In Garden City, Mrs. Ludlam served on the Altar Guild at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.

Later on, in Vermont, she served on the zoning board for the town of Dorset and supported environmental conservation and the preservation of the area’s pure water resources.

Survivors include two beloved children, her son, Stephen, and his wife, Nancy, of Ledyard, Conn., and her daughter, Anne, and her husband, Jerome Wichelns, of Carthage, N.Y. She is survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and is predeceased by her husband, George P. Ludlam, who died on Aug. 1, 1997, and her brother, Lieutenant General William B. Kieffer.

Kathleen Ludlam enjoyed gardening and bird watching. In younger years, she hiked the Presidentials. She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church, in Manchester Center, and she and her husband had special ties with the East Dorset Congregational Church. She supported the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester.

The funeral will be held on Nov. 18, at 1 p.m., at Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester Center, with the burial at Dellwood Cemetery.
