Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- A prayer service for Kathleen M. Betit was held on Saturday morning, Jan. 8, by Sister Margaret McDevitt of Rutland at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington, followed by a Mass of Christian death and burial at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Upon arrival at the church, the pall was placed upon the casket by Mrs. Betit’s four daughters, Kathleen Yen, Elizabeth Turner, Mary Ellen Keresey and Eileen Riehle. The wooden cross was placed on the pall by her husband Raymond. The celebrant for the Mass was the Rev. Vincent Coppola, c.s.c., associate pastor.

Concelebrating the Mass with Father Vincent was the Rev. Michael DeMasi.

The Old Testament scripture was read by her granddaughter, Jenifer Betit Yen, and the New Testament was read by her grandson Christopher Betit-Yen.

The Eucharistic gifts were presented at the altar by grandchildren Emily Turner, Sean Keresey and Bradley P. Riehle.

Tributes and remembrances were offered by a nephew, Edward Grimes.

Musical selections for the Mass were “Be Not Afraid,” “Ave Maria,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “The Prayer of St. Francis” and “Danny Boy.” Soloist for the Mass was Ms. Monica Murray and the organist was Mr. Donald McMahon. Assisting at the Mass were Mr. Leonard Anzivino, Mr. Gerald Amadon, Mr. John Reed and Mr. Francis Sausville. Pallbearers for the services were Andrew Yen, Christopher Yen, Thomas Yen, Dennis Keresey, Sean Keresey, Brendan Keresey, Michael Turner, Max Turner, Hudson Riehle Sr., Hudson Riehle Jr., Bradley Riehle and Thomas Yen.

Attending the Mass as honorary pall bearers were members of the St. Anne Society, which included Doris Bourgeois, Theresa Boutin, Mary Lou Cox, Rachel Kinney, Jane Pinsonneault and Louna Tressier.

Interment followed in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery, where Father Vincent offered the prayers of committal.

The members of the St. Anne’s Society also attended the visitation on Friday evening at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home and led those in attendance in the rosary. The vigil service was offered at the funeral home by Father Vincent.

Mrs. Kathleen M. Betit, a longtime resident of Imperial Avenue in Bennington, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday evening, Jan. 1, 2005.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
