Kathryn J. Hamilton 1953 - 2009 WEST CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. Kathryn J. "Kathy" Hamilton, 55, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at Albany Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in a fall. She was the wife of Donald H. Hamilton and mother of Courtney Hamilton, the loves of her life. Born in Bennington, Vt., on July 13, 1953, the daughter of the late Albert C. Young and Ruth Barber Freemyer, she grew up in North Shaftsbury and graduated from Hoosick Falls High School. On Oct. 27, 1973, Kathy and Don were married. They lived in North Hoosick for many years and moved to the Hamilton family homestead on Center Cambridge Road in 1997. Kathy had worked at several Vermont banks, including Merchant Bank in Bennington, where she was a Market Manager and Vice President for the past seven years. Kathy was president of the Board of Directors for the Bennington Coalition for the Homeless, an organization that she had been involved with for several years. To facilitate her love of cooking, the farmhouse kitchen had just undergone a complete makeover. Kathy was so excited about her new kitchen with its large windows for watching the birds. Kathy was a devoted animal lover. After saving them from the talons of a hawk, she raised two kittens, Carl and Meredith, by hand. Now two years old, they were devoted to her. She also enjoyed the family dog, Cleo. Along with her husband of 35 years and her beloved daughter, she leaves four siblings, Cheryl Spraker of Dallas, Texas, Gillian (Tom) Wilson of White Creek, Patrick (Joan) Young of Camden, S.C., and Lynn Hurley of Williamstown, Mass.; a special niece, Tammy Young Galt, husband, Bruce, and son, Owen, of Stratford, Conn.; in-laws, Joan and Paul Weber of Buskirk, Linda and Fern Delisle of Argyle, and Terry and Jackie Hamilton of West Cambridge; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Freemyer, and by a nephew, Michael Young. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A Memorial Celebration of Kathy's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Church, 70 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, with the Rev. Lorraine Lyons officiating. Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. The family would appreciate donations in Kathy's memory be made to either Bennington Coalition for the Homeless, 5 Bank Street, North Bennington, VT 05257, or Second Chance Animal Center, P. O. Box 620, Shaftsbury, VT 05262. Kathy was a ray of sunshine in the lives of many. Her kind selfless being will be greatly missed by her loving family, many friends and furry companions.
