Obituary Condolences

WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- Kathryn M. Reinfurt Fronczek, 47, died peacefully at her home in Watervliet in the early morning hours of Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004. Known to all as Kathy, she was born in Albany on March 29, 1956 and was the fifth of seven children born to the late Edward J. Reinfurt and Mary E. O’Malley Reinfurt. Kathy attended elementary school at Sacred Heart of Mary School in Watervliet and was a member of the graduating class of 1974 from Watervliet High School. She furthered her education at SUNY Brockport and Siena College and then worked, for a brief time, for Montgomery Ward and Company in Menands and State Bank of Albany.

In 1979, Kathy enrolled in Hudson Valley Community College to pursue a dream of joining her father and brothers in the operation of the family business, Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home in Watervliet. In 1981, she graduated from Hudson Valley Community College, receiving an associate’s degree in applied science in mortuary science. Kathy received her New York State Funeral Directors license in 1982 and, shortly after the death of her father in that same year, assumed operation of the funeral home.

For the next 22 years, Kathy served the families of her beloved Watervliet and the surrounding communities with compassion blended with maternal care. She operated her business with one cardinal rule, never to say no to any request made by a family she had the privilege to serve. Under her leadership, Kathy extended her service to other communities by acquiring the Cummings Funeral Home in Watervliet, the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home in Stephentown, the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home in Petersburgh and the Robson-Reinfurt Funeral Home in Hoosick Falls. Her funeral homes were instruments, by which Kathy could, not only provide a much needed service, but could also give back to the community.

She enthusiastically supported Watervliet sports and Watervliet youth. She was proud of her service as statistician to the Watervliet High School Cannoneers football team coached by her late brother Dan. Kathy enjoyed her role as a Democratic committeeperson in Watervliet. She had served as a board member of the Watervliet Civic Center, St. Brigid’s Regional Catholic School Board and Home School Association, Albany-Rensselaer County Funeral Directors Association, New York State Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.

Kathy was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Watervliet. Kathy was the beloved wife and best friend of Vincent C. Fronczek; the best mom to her son Joseph E. Fronczek of Watervliet; the cherished sister of John Reinfurt and his wife Jeanne of St. Louis, Mo., Edward Reinfurt of Albany, Joseph Reinfurt of Watervliet, Susan Reinfurt Kuziara and her husband Thomas Kuziara of Watervliet, and Michael P. Reinfurt and his wife Eileen of Watervliet, and the late Daniel R. Reinfurt; much loved aunt of Demar, Robert, Claire, Patrick and Caitlyn Reinfurt. Kathy is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be held on Monday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 515-19th St., Watervliet where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. John F. Tallman and the Rev. Joseph G. Busch. Interment will follow in the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Parker Bros.
