BENNINGTON -- Kathryn “Kay” June Shubiak, 79, a resident of the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington died on Monday morning, June 9, 2003, following a brief illness.

She was born in New York City, on Jan. 3, 1924 and was the daughter of Jack and Helen (Ivory) Walters. She received her education in New York and has been a registered nurse throughout her working career. She was employed in several health care facilities throughout the area. Kay has resided in Bennington for the last ten years, and prior to that, she had resided in Bayport, N.Y. and Blue Point, N.Y. She was an avid bingo player. She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Stephen and Debbie Shubiak of Bennington, Paul Shubiak of Santa Monica, Calif. and John Shubiak of Staten Island, N.Y. Also she has two daughters and two sons-in-law; Nancy and David Hollister of Bennington and Jane and Ken Byers of Tualiton, Ore.

Kay also has seven grandchildren; David Hollister Jr., Steven Hollister, Bridgette Byers, Christopher Byers, John Shubiak, Tommy Shubiak, and Cathy Shubiak; and four great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by one son, Goggy Shubiak, who died in 1969.

A prayer service will be held on Wednesday evening at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St. in Bennington at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Michael DeMasi, officiating. Interment will take place privately. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6 until the time of the service.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center Patient Fund, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P. O. Box 957, Bennington, VT 05201.
