Kathy Ann Shea 1956-2009 WILLISTON Kathy Ann Shea, 52, of Williston, died peacefully Friday, March 20, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving sons and companion, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Bennington on July 19, 1956, the daughter of the late Robert F. and Jessie Fenn Shea. Kathy was a graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington, class of 1974. She continued her education at Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1978. She began her nursing career at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, upon relocating to Brattleboro she then worked as school nurse at the Austine School for the Deaf and for the past several years as the school nurse with the Williston School District. Kathy was an avid traveler and often visited Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially biking, swimming, golf, rowing, sailing, and the beach. She had a close-knit group of friends who she adored very much and who enriched her life. She gave back to her community by donating her time to those in need and was a mentor to students at Williston Central School. Kathy is survived by her two sons, Ryan K. Lerner of New York City and Mark T. Lerner of San Diego, Calif.; four brothers and their spouses, Howard and Julianne Shea of Easton, N.Y., Peter and Karen Shea of Postenkill, N.Y., Timothy and Kim Shea of Salem, N.Y. and Mark and Lisa Shea of Bennington; several nieces and nephews and her companion, George Graham of Champlain, N.Y. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 1 p.m. in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, South Burlington. A memorial mass will be held in Bennington at a later date.
