PERU -- Kenneth Clark Batchelder, 92, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at his home in Peru.

He was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Peru, the son of Edmund and Christine (Wilkinson) Batchelder.

Kenneth worked for the Civil Conservation Corps during the 1930s and the National Forest Service; he also worked in the lumber mills, namely Batchelder Lumber.

In later years, he worked for the state of Vermont and the Peru Highway Department.

He was an avid hunter into his 80s.

Kenneth was a volunteer with the Peru Fire Department.

Survivors include his foster children, James Hunt of Manchester and Rose Holcomb of Cambridge, N.Y.; a sister, Helen Billings of Danby; his adopted grandchildren, Helen LaPan of Peru and Elroy Davis of Manchester; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his foster daughter, Helen Batchelder Davis; three brothers, George, Lyle and Earl Batchelder; and his sister-in-law, Lillian Batchelder, with whom he shared his home.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the North Peru Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Londonderry Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 911, Londonderry, VT 05148.

Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester are assisting the family with the arrangements.
