Kenneth A. Gemmell BENNINGTON Kenneth A. Gemmell, 71, a resident of County Street in Bennington died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.He was born in Middletown Springs, Vt. April 6, 1939. He was the son of the late Albert and Adelaide McLaughlin Gemmell. Ken received his education in Connecticut and attended Southington High School in Southington, Conn. He married the former Bernadette Marcoux on May 24, 1968. Mrs. Gemmell died September 20, 2005 Ken was employed at several contracting companies including Gagnon Construction, M&M Construction, Apple Valley Construction and most recently at Loureiro Engineering Associates. He was a life member of the Bennington Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to Saratoga with his friends. In earlier years he enjoyed going to the car races in Daytona. He loved animals, especially his dogs. Survivors include three daughters, Gloria A. Beraldi and her husband James of Dalton, Mass., Kathleen M. Hanson and her husband Richard of Oakville, Conn. and Pauline V. Garofano and her husband Gary of Dallas, Georgia; two sons, William H. Volkmer III and his wife, Starr, of Bennington, Vt. and Charles W. Forrest III and his wife, Kimberly, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Badgley of North Clarendon, Vt.; two brothers, Dale Gemmell of Milldale, Conn. and Maurice Gemmell of Salt Lake City, Utah; a special friend, Shirley Chenaille, of Pownal; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Louis Gemmell. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Monday February 28, 2011 at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday from noon until the time of the service. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. If friends desire contribution in memory of Kenneth A. Gemmell may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201
